The Minnesota Health Information Exchange (MN HIE) will conduct a pilot project with Aging Services of Minnesota at 12 of their member settings. This select group of care centers and assisted-living providers will use MN HIE’s stand alone web services to view long term care patient’s clinical information.

The Minnesota Health Information Exchange (MN HIE) announces a partnership with DrFirst to provide seamless access to e-prescribing from the MN HIE provider portal. MN HIE will offer all of its health care clients and their patients the increased convenience, cost savings and safety of DrFirst's award-winning, electronic prescribing solution, Rcpoia. "Providing access through the MN HIE portal to DrFirst's e-prescribing tool allows prescribers to meet state regulatory requirements for electronic prescribing effective January 1, 2011 without any significant technology investment. The technology also supports Meaningful Use requirements and will enable prescribers to demonstrate compliance and qualify for incentive payments." said Michael Ubl, MN HIE Executive Director. MN HIE will allow prescribers to access Rcopia DrFirst's e-prescribing application with a single click from the Clinical View of the MN HIE portal. This allows prescribers to view a patient’s clinical information – medication, lab and immunization history – then quickly create an electronic prescription for the patient.
ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA - September 15, 2009 MN HIE Announced as Finalist for 10th Annual Tekne Award.
The Minnesota High Tech Association (MHTA) has named the Minnesota Health Information Exchange (MN HIE), as a finalist in the Innovative Collaboration of the Year category for the 2009 Tekne Awards, which will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Thursday, Oct. 22. The Tekne Awards recognize Minnesota companies and individuals who have shown superior technology innovation and leadership. MN HIE is an essential element of health care reform in Minnesota and a unique example of public-private collaboration to improve the health of all Minnesotans. MN HIE currently facilitates sharing of patient medication history among health care providers and, by October, services will also include exchange of lab results, immunization records, eligibility information, and patient health records to support continuity of care. “We are honored to be recognized for our achievement and are very excited about new MN HIE services that will allow providers to exchange an even broader range of patient information.” said Michael Ubl, MN HIE Executive Director. The exchange of health information electronically between physicians, hospitals, health plans, and patients has increased substantially in the last year and is reducing the cost of care and positively impacting physicians, according to a new survey released by the non-profit eHealth Initiative (eHI) today. “The survey shows the potential for health information exchange to improve efficiency and reduce health care costs nationwide. We have real examples where care delivery was improved and cost savings found,” said Jennifer Covich, Chief Operating Officer and Interim CEO at eHI. “The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act could significantly impact health information exchange. All Innovation Award nominees are recognized for developing and implementing new and effective solutions to critical health care challenges. Approximately 70 health plans applied for the awards as part of information submitted on “Best Practices and Innovations” in NBCH's 2008 eValue8 submission tool, an annual evaluation of health plans used by employers and business coalitions.
